The Thomas T. Fortune Foundation invites you to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at our Second Annual Unity March for Red Bank, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Avenue, from 1-3 pm.
Join us as we re-affirm our commitment to Red Bank’s unity, diversity, inclusiveness and community with an afternoon of songs, service and citizenship. All Red Bank stakeholders: families, schools, churches and businesses, are invited to meet either outside the Thomas T. Fortune House, 94 Drs. James Parker Blvd, or the meeting spot of their choice at 12:30 pm.
Each group will then make their way to Pilgrim Baptist Church, with our parade growing larger as the entire town literally “comes together” in spirit, unity and pride. Once at the Church, various student, religious and civic representatives will lead us with songs and stories that highlight our conscious decision to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems while simultaneously elevating the practice of fairness, kindness and responsibility.
We’ll ask each participating group to commemorate Dr. King’s concept of a “Beloved Community” with a specific service action that will empower individuals, bridge barriers, and help create solutions to strengthen our entire community, and further ask all attendees to do their part to ensure these service actions succeed.
Dr. King once said, “Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” He also told us: “We cannot walk alone.”
Please be a part of this joyful salute to trust, brotherhood and conciliation. Help us help each other turn our eyes away from confusion, isolation and fear and instead fix our sights on the hope and opportunity of our – and our children’s — shared future.
